What heating and cooling work costs in Warragul
Published 2026 price ranges for split systems, ducted reverse cycle, gas ducted heating, servicing and repairs, and what moves a Warragul quote up or down.
Most Warragul heating and cooling jobs fall inside a published range: a single split for one room, a ducted reverse cycle system for the whole house, a new gas ducted heater, or a service or repair on what you already have. The table below collects twelve of those ranges from two 2026 price guides. They are guide figures to help you budget, and the real number comes from an independent local provider after they have seen the house.
Where do these price ranges come from?
Two published guides were used, and each figure on this page carries its source.
- What’s The Damage, air conditioning cost Melbourne publishes a Melbourne metro table. It states its prices include GST, were verified in October 2026, and that outer suburbs may vary. Warragul sits well outside the metro area, so read those rows as a reference point rather than a local rate.
- The Quote Yard, air conditioning costs VIC 2026 has a regional table with a Gippsland row. Those figures are indicative 2026 Victorian estimates for a standard installation with no electrical upgrade.
Where a Gippsland figure exists it is listed first, because it is the closer match for Baw Baw homes.

Each service page explains its own job in more detail. The split system installation page covers single rooms, the ducted reverse cycle page covers whole-house systems, and the gas ducted heating page covers central gas heaters and their replacement.
Running costs are left out on purpose. No current, primary source for the cost of running gas ducted heating against reverse cycle in Gippsland was found, so this page does not guess at one.
What makes a quote land high or low in the range?
The spread in each row is wide because houses differ more than equipment does. These are the items that usually decide where a Warragul job ends up.
- Capacity. A bigger room or a whole house needs more heating output, and a larger unit costs more to buy and to fit. A system that is too large also uses more energy, which is why the state program advises having the installer visit and size it on site.
- Where the units go. Both guides treat a back-to-back split, with the indoor unit directly opposite the outdoor unit through one wall, as the baseline. Longer pipe runs, a condenser on a bracket high on a wall, or a unit on the far side of the house all add labour and material.
- The switchboard. Every reverse cycle system needs its own circuit. The Quote Yard notes that older switchboards often need upgrading for reverse cycle, and some large systems need three phase power. That work is quoted on top of the unit.
- Roof space and access. Ducted systems go in the ceiling. Low roof pitch, tight access or a two storey layout slows the job.
- What comes out. Removing an old split means recovering its refrigerant, which only a licensed technician can do. Pulling out an old gas ducted unit or evaporative cooler adds time, and in the gas case a gasfitter has to disconnect and cap the supply.
- Zoning and controls. Zoned ducted systems, which let you heat bedrooms at night and the living area by day, sit in the higher band in the table.
If you already have ducts in good order, What’s The Damage notes that replacing only the gas heater unit usually costs less than a whole new system. Ask for that price separately before you commit to anything larger.
What is usually included, and what is extra?
A quote for a supplied and installed system normally covers the indoor and outdoor units, mounting, a standard length of refrigerant pipe, the drain, commissioning and the electrical connection to an existing circuit. Ducted quotes add the indoor unit in the roof, ductwork, outlets, return air grille and the controller.
These items are priced separately so often that you should assume they are extra unless the quote says otherwise:
- switchboard upgrades or a new dedicated circuit
- pipe runs beyond the length included in the base price
- wall brackets, ground pads, condenser cages or bulkheads
- removal and disposal of the old system, including refrigerant recovery
- new or replacement ductwork when the existing ducts are not reusable
- making good: patching ceilings, painting or sealing old roof penetrations
When you request a costed heating or cooling quote, mention which of these you expect so the provider can price them up front rather than on the day.
How do Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts change the price?
Under the state program, an accredited provider can take a discount off the price of an eligible high efficiency reverse cycle system. The discount appears on the quote itself, it has to be arranged before work starts, and its size depends on what heating you are replacing. This page does not list discount amounts; the Warragul VEU heating discount guide explains how the program works, and the provider confirms the figure on their quote.
How should you compare two or three quotes?
Line the quotes up side by side and check that they are pricing the same job. Two figures for “a split system” can describe different capacities, brands and pipe lengths.
| Check on each quote | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact model numbers and rated heating and cooling capacity | Lets you compare like with like and check the unit suits the room |
| Outdoor noise level | The program page suggests asking for this, which matters on smaller blocks |
| Pipe length included and the rate beyond it | The most common variation on a split quote |
| Electrical work and switchboard condition | The item most often missed in a household budget |
| Removal of the old unit | Includes refrigerant recovery or gas disconnection |
| VEU discount shown as a line item | Confirms an accredited provider is involved |
| Warranty on the equipment and on the installation | Two separate things, and both should be stated |
The heating and cooling quote checklist walks through the licence checks and paperwork in order, so use it alongside this table.
What are the red flags in a heating or cooling quote?
Most providers quote carefully. A few patterns are worth questioning before you sign:
- a single total with no model number, capacity or list of inclusions
- a price given over the phone without anyone asking about room sizes, insulation, windows or the switchboard
- no mention of who holds the refrigerant handling licence, or reluctance to give a licence number
- no electrical certificate mentioned for a new circuit or switchboard work
- a discount promised after the job is finished, when the program says retrospective discounts are typically not possible
- pressure to pay most of the price before any equipment arrives
None of these proves a problem on its own, but each is a reasonable question to ask before work begins.
Which licences sit behind the price?
The price you pay includes several licensed trades. Refrigerant work needs a technician with an Australian Refrigeration Council licence under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. Electrical connection needs a licensed electrician, and Energy Safe Victoria says a Certificate of Electrical Safety records that work under the Electricity Safety Act 1998. Any work on a gas heater needs a gasfitter licensed for Type A appliance servicing. The provider you are referred to may cover all three or bring others in, and it quotes and carries out the job in its own name.
Next step: get a price for your own house
Send a short description through the form and ask for a Warragul heating and cooling price. Include the suburb, the rooms or floor area you want heated or cooled, what you have now (gas ducted, wall furnace, old split or nothing), its rough age, whether you are on mains gas or bottled LPG, and a photo of the switchboard and of where the outdoor unit could sit. That is enough for a provider to tell you which row of the table your job is likely to fall in before they book a visit.
Frequently asked questions
- Are Warragul prices higher than the Melbourne figures shown?
They can differ. The Melbourne guide says its figures are for the metro area and that outer suburbs may vary. Travel time, access and the age of the house all play a part, so treat the Melbourne rows as a reference and the Gippsland rows as the closer guide for Baw Baw.
- Do the published ranges include GST?
The What's The Damage table states its prices include GST. The Quote Yard describes its Gippsland figures as indicative 2026 estimates for a standard installation with no electrical upgrade. Ask each provider to show GST clearly on their written quote.
- Why can two quotes for the same split system be so far apart?
They are often pricing different jobs. One may include a longer pipe run, a new circuit, a wall bracket and removal of the old unit, while the other covers only a back-to-back install. Different brands and capacities also sit at different points in the range. Compare the inclusions line by line before comparing totals.
- Can I get a price without a site visit?
A provider may give a rough figure from photos and room sizes, but most will want to see the house before giving a firm quote. The state program advises having the installer visit to size a reverse cycle system properly, because an oversized unit can cost more to run.
- Do the ranges cover servicing an existing gas space heater?
No. No published service price band for gas space heaters was found for Gippsland or Melbourne, so none is listed. A licensed gasfitter will quote that work directly, and Energy Safe Victoria recommends a service at least every two years.
